The Central California District of the Japanese American Citizens League and The Big Fresno Fair have partnered to develop a Fresno Assembly Center Memorial to remember the 5,344 Japanese-Americans who were interned at the Fresno Fairgrounds.
A public outreach and fundraising campaign has begun and will be formally launched February 21, 2010 with a groundbreaking ceremony and Day of Remembrance Dinner at The Big Fresno Fair. The media and public are invited and there is no charge to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Commerce Building just north of the Chance Avenue entrance. Dinner will be at 6p.m. at the Industrial Education Building and cost is $50 per person.
