Happy National Raisin Day! Did you know that on approximately 200,000 acres, the 2,000 California Raisin growers produce 100% of the U.S. raisins in an area within a 60 mile radius of Fresno? 

 

Be sure to take a look around the Wells Fargo Agriculture Building to check out the amazing grape and raisin displays, along with other produce grown right in our backyard at the 2020 Big Fresno Fair!

Calling all Sewers! Help make masks for Our Medical Personnel!

Calling all Home Arts exhibitors, Junior exhibitors and all crafters in the community! Our medical community needs us! Please consider putting your sewing skills to work.  This is our chance to stay home and sew for good! Let’s join forces and help arm medical personnel on the front line of COVID-19 with the safety gear they need!

 

Community Medical Centers are now accepting home sewn masks in the Sarah Maker pattern as approved by the CDC. Click here for instructions and a video tutorial to start today!

 

Once you have a supply to donate, simply call (559) 724-4343 or email: CMCdonations@communitymedical.org. From there, instructions will be given on where and when to deliver them.

Day Four of National Ag Week – Baby Boom Area in Ag Ventureland

For day four of National Ag Week, we’re highlighting the Baby Boom area! Were you able to check out the Baby Boom area in Ag Ventureland Sponsored by Boot Barn and CalViva Health? In this area you will see baby goats, pigs and more! Did you know there were 41 pregnant sheep (ewes) at the 2019 Big Fresno Fair and 75 lambs were born on sight? Be sure to check out this Fair favorite at the 2020 Big Fresno Fair!

Day Three of National Ag Week – Ag Ventureland

It’s day three of National Ag Week and today we are highlighting the fun and educational Ag Ventureland Sponsored by Boot Barn and CalViva Health! Completely remodeled in 2018, Ag Ventureland has become the favorite area of both parents and children. Kids and Fairgoers of all ages can enjoy interactive activities, sensory activities, shows and much more – all focusing on the Valley’s rich Ag! Be sure to stop by this exhibit at the 2020 Big Fresno Fair, Oct 7-18!

Kick Off to National Ag Week!

It’s the beginning of National Ag Week and we will be highlighting the many agricultural exhibits that you can find at the Fair all week long! Did you know that a total of 40 different clubs, chapters and independent exhibitors participated in the 2019 Big Fresno Fair Livestock Pavilion Exhibits? Many of these members participated in the Jr. Livestock Auctions on October 5 and 12 at the 2019 Big Fresno Fair.

 

Fun Fair Fact: A total of 1,500 animals were exhibited at the 2019 Big Fresno Fair and a grand total of 763 animals were sold at both Jr. Livestock Auctions with sales of $1,006,784.92!

Fair Eagle Sculpture Wins Best of Show at March’s Art Hop!

The Big Fresno Fair’s CEO, John C. Alkire and in-house talented welder, Hank Alaniz won Best of Show at the March Art Hop in downtown Fresno for an incredible metal sculpture of a bald eagle! This unique sculpture is made up completely of recycled metal parts from Turner’s Auto Wrecking and stands at 9 feet tall, has 2,100 individual metal feathers on its body and a wingspan of 8 feet wide!

 

This award-winning sculpture will be dedicated to the late Marvin Meyers and will be put on permanent display in the Meyer’s Water & Wildlife Tree in the Table Mountain Rancheria Park.

 

“Marvin was a beloved veteran and eagle scout who cared for his community,” said CEO, John C. Alkire. “He was a huge donor to Fresno State and his name will live on with his sponsorship with Meyer’s Water and Wildlife Banks”

 

A special dedication of the sculpture will take place prior to the 2020 Big Fresno Fair.

It’s National Jewel Day!

In honor of National Jewel Day, we have a fun fact for you! Did you know that the softest and lightest gemstone on earth is amber? It is so light that it’s able to float in salt water!
