Midland Cancels Show due to Positive COVID-19 Case

The Big Fresno Fair Management sadly announces Midland has cancelled their October 13 concert at the Fair due to a positive COVID-19 case among the band’s touring crew. We were notified of this situation late last night by Midland’s Management.

Concert tickets for the Midland show will be automatically refunded for those who purchased online or by phone with a credit card. Please allow five business days for the refund to show on your credit card. Anyone who purchased with cash at the Fair’s ticket box office will need to bring their tickets to the Fair’s Administration Ticket Box Office the week of October 18 for their refund.

Statement from Midland band:
“We are sad to announce that we have to reschedule Wednesdays show in Fresno, CA – even though we are a fully vaccinated tour, we had a positive test in our touring entity. In an effort to keep our band, crew, fans, and families safe, we are following a strict testing protocol and won’t be cleared to be back on the road in time for this performance.”

“We are incredibly disappointed to have Midland cancel their show at our Fair tonight as they were our top-selling concert and we know many from our community were looking forward to seeing them perform live for the first time ever in Fresno. However, the health and safety of all is the top priority and we respect their decision. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to our Fairgoers and hope you all will still join us for a great night at the 2021 Big Fresno Fair,” said Lauri King, Deputy Manager II, The Big Fresno Fair.

October 11 – Horse Racing Cancelled

From Lauri King, Deputy Manager II, The Big Fresno Fair

“Due to the increased wind today and it’s impact on the air quality index, horse racing was cancelled for the safety of our horses and jockeys. It was not an easy decision to make, but it was the right decision for the safety of these athletes. The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) veterinarian Dr. Jeff Blea, along with our track veterinarian, Dr. Frosty Franklin and our staff made this decision as it was unsafe to have these equine athletes compete when the air quality index is above 150; at the time we made the decision to cancel the air quality index was at 225. We will work to add the races that were to run today to Friday’s race card as potential extra races.

Anyone who purchased horse racing tickets on-site to the races today can obtain their refund at the horse racing box office. If they were purchased in advance or online, a refund will be provided automatically within 5 business days.”

Sierra 4-H Exhibitor Feature – Oscar Glass

The Jr. Livestock Auction returns to in-person on Saturday, October 9 at 10 a.m. and October 16 at 9 a.m. and will feature goats, sheep, beef, swine, rabbits and poultry from dedicated and hardworking 4-H and FFA members throughout Fresno County.

Leading up to the auction, we’ll be featuring 4-H & FFA exhibitors from participating chapters to highlight their animal project and all their hard work, while also giving buyers and our community a glimpse of animals they can bid on!

Meet Oscar Glass, a Sierra 4-H student who is a 7th grader at Sierra Junior High School:

“Oscar Glass is 12 years old and a 7th grader at Sierra Junior High School. He is a member of Sierra 4-H and has been since he was 9 years old. He joined 4-H to learn more about the things he likes to do, like spending time with goats. Oscar says he loves his goats because they are a team and he enjoys spending time with them and managing their growth. His favorite part of showing goats is spending time with his friends getting ready to go into the show ring.

Oscar will be showing 2 Boer wether goats this year and their names are Batman and Cash. He’s also showing a breeding doe named Wonder Woman. He will be selling Batman at The Big Fresno Fair’s Jr. Livestock Auction after a sixth month show carrier.”

Help out these hard-working students in the community! Participate in the sale as a buyer or place an add-on bid! Every bit helps out these kids who’ve been working all year to get to where they are now. Buyer registration opens Monday, September 20.
