Dalton King | Independent Showman

Meet Dalton King, a Independent Showman Exhibitor who is a 7th grader at Sierra Junior High School:

"Hello, my name is Dalton King and I am 12 years old. I live in Tollhouse and LOVE the mountains! This is my first year at Sierra Junior High School and I am really enjoying school and I currently have straight A’s! My parents like to say I am a kid who wants to do it ALL and they give me all the chances to. I play so many sports including: travel baseball, football and soccer, this is my first Jr. High Sport. I want to play basketball in the winter too. I am also in leadership. I have joined leadership because I like being in school activities and the FFA Program also. In addition to everything I do I am also in Sierra 4-H showing livestock and participating in shooting sports – this is my favorite thing to do.

I LOVE animals! I have gotten to show a steer, a heifer and 4 goats. My animals teach me a lot about responsibility and caring for them. They depend on me to be fed, watered and exercised! With each showing experience I have had I always want to improve and continue to improve in the show ring – hopefully getting to the goal of winning a belt buckle!

This year at The Big Fresno Fair I am showing a breeding heifer named Black Betty and Stitch who is my market goat. Black Betty and I have been showing at jackpot shows since November 2020 and have had a lot of FUN! She is an x-bred heifer and has been very successful in the ring winning Champion Market Heifer 4 times. Black Betty will stay at our Family cattle operation and will get bred this winter. I am working with my dad and Uncle Zeb to decide what to breed her to. Hopefully when she calves I will be able to show her calf also! Black Betty and I are also going to try our hand at the Beef Beaus and Bells contest…we are trying to win that fancy buckle.

Stitch is a market boer goat from McDaniel Livestock and has been shown at 2 jackpot shows this summer. I chose him out of the other goats because he was not only a great package but he seemed like he had a great disposition – which was true. Stitch has been a fun project with a lot of personality! He will sell in the Junior Livestock Auction on October 16th at 8:30am and I would love for you to come support us!!

Showing livestock is a family passion! We all love to go to shows and work with our animals. I am thankful for the support of my parents and siblings and just hope to keep doing a little bit better each year. Thank you to The Big Fresno Fair for having a show for all of us livestock kids!"
