Meet Jesse Smith, a Sierra 4-H student who is a 7th grader at Sierra Jr. High School :
Jesse got involved in 4-H because he thought it would be fun to work with animals. Jesse served as a Junior Leader in the Sheep Project this year and was instrumental in helping to plan monthly project meetings and leading learning activities for each meeting.
This is Jesse's fourth year in 4-H and the third year that he has exhibited a market lamb at the Big Fresno Fair.Jesse and his family previously raised Dorper sheep, mainly for fire suppression and meat.Four years ago, Jesse and his brother joined Sierra 4-H Club with the goal of getting involved in the Sheep Project. They each raised and exhibited a market lamb and found that showing sheep was fun! After the first year, Jesse and his family switched to raising club lambs and have spent the past few years improving their flock and the animals they show.
This year, Jesse is exhibiting Taz, a crossbred lamb that is entered in the Speck (Commercial Cross) Class.Jesse has spent the past six months working with Taz to get him show-ready.Jesse looks forward to showing the results of his hard work in the market and showmanship classes this year.
