Megan Banda | Reedley Middle College FFA

Meet Megan Banda, a Reedley Middle College High School FFA student who is a Senior at Reedley Middle College.

“I got involved in 4-H/FFA because I wanted to learn responsibility and gain hands-on experience in agriculture. I knew this program would help me build leadership skills while also giving me the chance to meet new people and be part of something meaningful. Plus it’s so fun! This program is important to me because it teaches lessons I can use for the rest of my life, like responsibility, time management, and confidence. I feel proud when I see all of my hard work pay off, and I like knowing I’m part of a program that makes a difference in my community.

I wanted to end my senior year with a bang! I decided to show my first ever steer. His name is Emmett and he weighs around 1430 pounds, big guy, right? He has quite the personality for a steer and it genuinely put a smile on my face whenever I go to feed him or even work with him. When I first bought him from Randy Silva, we had an immediate connection. He let me touch him all over and lay on him while he didn’t let my sister. Once we brought him back to my school’s farm, working with him came so naturally. He’s very calm and you could say he goes with the flow, but when he has a nice clean pen, that’s when his crazy personality really shows. Emmett also has a very sound walk and he’s proportionate in his front and back half. He’s also very muscular all over. I’m really excited for this year’s fair because I’ve put so much time and effort into making sure that Emmett is ready.”
