Meet Vanessa Cantu, a Reedley Middle College High School FFA Senior:
Senior year has been an exciting chapter in her life so far. This year is her first year being involved in Future Farmers of America. She is currently raising a lamb whose name is Bolt. Raising an animal for The Big Fresno Fair has been a new experience that has allowed her to train with others. FFA has been an excellent experience for her; she meets new people all the time, she has learned communication skills, and FFA always has a positive attitude, which, in turn, has taught her to always have a positive attitude. Being involved in her school and throughout the community has made her grow as a person with leadership skills. Her plans after high school are to attend a 4-year university along with studying the major of journalism. Hoping one day she'll be a news anchor.
Taking on a market lamb has taught her many things as well. She has gained valuable knowledge about animal husbandry, responsibility, and, most importantly, hard work – all of which are integral aspects of the FFA program. Vanessa named her lamb Bolt because these past years in high school have been as fast as a lightning bolt. Not only that, but she is looking forward to settling her plans for the future. Taking opportunities and chances for events are some things she'll always be grateful for.
