Meet Jazmin Hernandez, a Reedley Middle College FFA exhibitor!
"I got involved in FFA because of my older brother who showed a lamb his junior year and market hog his senior year. I look up to my brother so I chose to follow his footsteps in showing livestock and participating in FFA. I showed a market hog last year which was my freshman year and my first year participating in FFA. Showing a livestock animal showed me responsibility, teamwork, and commitment. It showed me that it was okay to step out of my comfort zone and to try new things that I’ve now learned to love. I hope that in the future I can not only keep showing livestock but also participating in CDE (Career Development Event), Opening and Closing, etc.
I am a sophomore in high school and this is my second year showing a market hog. My pig’s name is Jasper; he is a Dark Cross Breed Barrow. I chose the name Jasper because although it was hard to choose a name for the reason of his unique personality and so many characteristics, the name Jasper stood out to me the most. Even though he is a couple months old he is a sweet pig who loves getting to know other people and other pigs, despite him always having his head in his feed bowl he still notices new people and makes sure to make them feel welcome by staying by their side. When it was time to decide which pig I would love to show and sell at fair Jasper stood out to me the most. While the other pigs were shy and scared he would follow me and let me pet him which made me make up my mind in choosing him. With his current progress I am confident that he will help me succeed in showmanship and he will do really well in market because of his structure. Raising him taught me to be responsible and to have patience. "
