Meet Julianna Dean, a Reedley Middle College FFA student who is a Freshman at Reedley Middle College.
"I got involved in FFA because I wanted the chance to
learn more about agriculture and gain hands-on experience working with animals.
As a freshman, this is my very first year in the Reedley Middle College FFA
Chapter, and raising my market turkey, Otis, has already taught me so much.
Through this project, I’ve learned responsibility, animal care, and the
importance of hard work and consistency. This program is important to me because it is helping me
build leadership skills, develop perseverance, and understand what it takes to
be successful in agriculture. Every day I spend caring for Otis—feeding,
watering, and maintaining a clean environment—teaches me lessons that go beyond
the farm. FFA gives me the opportunity to grow as a student and a leader, and
it motivates me to continue learning and striving for excellence.
This year, my project is raising a traditional bronze market turkey named Otis at the Reedley Middle College High School farm. Each day I provide him with Farmers Feed, fresh water, and a clean, safe environment to keep him healthy. I also work with him daily so that he is comfortable around people and ready for the upcoming showmanship event at the Big Fresno Fair. This project has been both challenging and rewarding, giving me the chance to practice responsibility, dedication, and the skills it takes to raise an animal for market."
