Meet Nicholas Guerrero, a Sanger 4-H exhibitor from Quail Lake!
Nicholas became involved in Sanger 4-H for a number of reasons. First, he wanted the opportunity to explore different avenues and discover new interests. Through 4-H, he has been able to experience exhibiting animals at the county fair, participate in leadership activities, and develop meaningful social interactions with other youth his age. These experiences have allowed Nicholas to build confidence, learn responsibility, and become more comfortable working with others while being part of a supportive community.
Nicholas has always loved livestock. He has grown up around beef cattle, and his family also raises Boer goats, so caring for animals has always been a meaningful part of his life. Last year, he took on his first 4-H livestock project by raising a LaMancha dairy goat named Blossom. After that experience, Nicholas decided he was ready to challenge himself in a new way. This year, he chose to exhibit a Boer goat and raise market turkeys.
Nicholas has truly enjoyed being challenged by these projects. Learning how to care for animals on an individual basis, rather than simply providing daily feeding and routine maintenance, has been a whole new ball game for him. He has learned that livestock projects require patience, consistency, responsibility, and a willingness to pay attention to each animal’s individual needs.
Although this has been a more demanding activity, Nicholas has truly cherished the experience and the moments that come with it. It has been so much fun watching Levi the goat, along with Butterball Bob and Gobblezilla the turkeys, grow and develop throughout the season. More importantly, Nicholas growing alongside them has been incredibly rewarding. These animals have taught him that the hard work is worth it and that some of the best memories come from the time and effort invested along the way.
