Meet Romina Ambriz, a Reedley Middle College FFA exhibitor!
"I was first introduced to FFA and showing livestock as a freshman in high school. I didn’t really know what FFA was or the opportunities that it would open up for me. I simply took the first step of buying two-layer hens to be able to gain hands on experience working with farm animals. From there my involvement continued as I joined the CDE B.I.G and starting saving for the next fair season. By the time it came around, I was able to afford a Market Hog and had a blast showing my gilt Hamlet. Both experiences while distinct, showed me patience and gave a willingness and desire to learn. FFA and showing livestock is so important to me as it gave me a purpose and taught me lifelong lessons about dedication and adaptability that will follow me in life and into any career path.
This year will be my second year showing a Market Hog. My market hog this year is a barrow named Chip. Over the few months we have shared together it has been made obvious to me how I still have much to learn. Even after having shown a market hog last year, Hamlet’s and Chip’s personality couldn’t be more different. I have spent countless feedings, washings, practices, and walks together with Chip, forming a bond and preparing for fair. Though I am sad our time together is soon to end I am proud of the improvement and growth we have made. Chip is on the path to be 260lbs by auction."
